PREcovery® is a complex carbohydrate drink mix that is used for the dietary preparation of elective surgical patients. PREcovery® is an evidence-based formulation designed to reduce postoperative insulin resistance and improve outcomes. PREcovery® offers the lowest osmolality results among competitor products, ensuring safe and timely gastric emptying before surgery.

PREcovery® contains no added fillers, sweeteners, or artificial flavors.

3 Dose Protocol:

The evening before surgery - Prepare two servings of PREcovery®, one at a time, by stirring one package into 400mL (13.5 fl oz) of water until completely dissolved. Consume both servings over a two hour period.


The day of surgery - 2-3 hours before surgery, or as directed by your healthcare professional, prepare one serving of PREcovery® by stirring one package into 400mL (13.5 fl oz) of water until completely dissolved. Drink immediately within 20 minutes or less. Ensure no fluids are consumed within 2 hours of your scheduled surgery.

PREcovery® meets the ERAS Society® recommendations for a preoperative oral carbohydrate drink, and meets the Canadian and American Anesthesiology Societies’ (CAS & ASA) recommendations for preoperative consumption of clear fluids.

FAQs

Can I use this product in my diabetic patients? Type 2 diabetic individuals may use PREcovery®. There are a few studies that illustrate the safety of using preoperative carbohydrate beverages in this patient population. However, PREcovery® is contraindicated for type 1 diabetic patients as there is no data to support use in this patient population.

Won’t juice or sports drinks achieve the same result?Juice and sports drinks contain simple carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates produce less than half the insulin response than do the complex carbohydrates found in PREcovery®. There is no evidence to support the safety or effectiveness of juice and sports drinks as a preoperative carbohydrate beverage.
